Post Mosin on the way!
Thats right, its all shush, but my gf got me a mosin for Cristmas, I'll be getting it from her soon, and its in great condition. That said, its pretty clean, but I need to get some places cleaned out on it. I know your supposed to use hot water to get cosmoline off, so I'll probably need to use that and a toothbrush since it doesn't appear to be anywhere but a few crevices in it.

Also, how do you get that sticky feeling off of the wood? I've heard leaving it in the sun and wiping it off with a wash cloth every day for a few days, but I'm thinking I may just need to get a steamer or something to melt it...

w00t!

Pictures next Wednesday.

Just got it today (also, I can do this through my phone, who knew?)!!! I need to clean it up a bit, but I'll worry about that throughout the week. One concern I have though, is that when I dry fire the mosin, the bolt shifts ever so slightly so the handle moves upward a tiny bit. Is this something to be concerned about or is it normal and will it not happen when I have something in the chamber? I really hope its normal and goes away once I chamber a round, dont want to blow my face off...

I GOT MOAR MOSIN!!!!!!!!

ok, one last question, were pouring boiling water over the metal, but I need to know how much oil to put back in the bolt once I've gotten that cleaned out. Do i need to re-oil it pretty heavily or really lightly, or not at all?

Thanks guys!

Post Re: Mosin on the way!
So I haven't gotten any pics of it yet, but I DID go shoot it, and I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That said, why does everyone say it kicks so hard? I didn't think it was that bad at all, and I was using heavy ball...

Oh, and its an Izhevsk, finally decided to look up the markings, even though they are a bit hard to see, they are probably the most worn part on the entire gun...

Last question, I hate the iron sights, its really hard for me to make out the front post, I'm thinking about either getting an aperature sight and using white out on the front post or grabbing a scout mount, any recommendations? (no permanent modifications!)

d-double post!!!!

Ok, so, I found some 1950's production 7.62x54R that comes already on stripper clips for 89 bucks, problem is theres only 300 rounds per spam can as opposed to 440 rounds. I'm thinking its worth it considering the price of good stripper clips, but the fact is that the ammo is from the 50's and I can get production from the 70s-80s off stripper clips...

Anyone had any experience with polish lightball and/or stripper clips?

I'm really thinking about getting at least a crates worth...

where? if they are "good" stripper clips i might pick up a spam can :)

i wouldn't worry about 50's production it may be corrosisve just remember to clean your rifle well after shooting it

for the strippers along its probably worth it
